Samantha the Cupcake Queen

Samantha Lucenti graduated from Jackson High School last year as a part of the class of 2013.  Samantha transferred to Jackson High after her sophomore year, coming from Western High School. Little did anyone know that during her senior year she would change the lives of dozens of people forever.

Samantha has been baking since she was two years old, but she started baking cupcakes for a profit during her senior year. While it may have started off slow, her cupcakes were so good that she quickly was making dozens of cupcakes for graduation parties.

“She baked cupcakes once for the varsity softball banquet and they were honestly some of the best cupcakes I’ve ever had. You could tell she put a lot of effort into making them.” Sophomore Frances Davis said.

Samantha first started baking Christmas cookies with her mother and grandma during Christmas.  Every Christmas the family bakes 100s of Christmas cookies and gives them to friends, family, and the interfaith shelter. Baking for others is Samantha’s favorite thing about baking.

“The funny thing is, I don’t really like sweets. I bake because I like making people happy. Making people makes me happy. My favorite part is watching people eat what I make. “Lucenti said.

Even though her grandmother was the first person to teach her how to cook, Samantha is now in New York at the Culinary Institute of Niagara Falls learning how to bake pastries. Next year she is planning on moving back to Michigan and going to Grand Valley State University to work on her business degree. Samantha eventually wants to her own bakery and call it “Sammy’s Sweets.”

“My favorite thing to bake is cupcakes. You can turn them into anything you want and make them pretty. My favorite cupcake to make is Cherry Vanilla because they are my grandpa’s favorite.” –Lucenti said.

Even though she is in New York, she will be home in time for graduation parties. While she specializes in cupcakes, she is willing to bake almost anything. Her most popular cupcakes are: Chocolate with peanut Butter frosting, Strawberry Cheesecake, Carmel Apple, Pineapple upside down cake, cookie dough, Chocolate Raspberry, lemon, and Cherry Vanilla.

“I was hired in Cincinnati to bake 150 Carmel Apple cupcakes for a charity event and that was pretty exciting. Everyone came up to me after and told me how good they were and that was probably my best experience so far.” Lucenti said.

If you would like to order cupcakes from Samantha or ask for more information you can call her at (517) 262-9031 or email her at Samantha.lucenti@gmail.com. While her cupcakes taste great, the fact that they are being made by a Viking Alumni makes them taste a little better.
